General Questions

  1. What is being announced?
    As of May 14, 2018, Cask Data, Inc. is joining Google Cloud.
  2. What do I do if I have questions?
    For CDAP open source support you can continue to send emails to cdap-user@googlegroups.com. Existing Cask customers can continue to reach out to support@cask.co or use the Cask support portal.
  3. What does this mean for CDAP users?
    This is great news for users of CDAP. The CDAP team at Google Cloud will continue developing and releasing open source CDAP with plans to grow the CDAP community and ecosystem.
  4. What does this mean for the CDAP ecosystem?
    As part of Google Cloud, the CDAP team plans to drive new partnerships, integrations, and a broader community of users and contributors.
  5. I make heavy use of the docs site. Will it continue to be publicly available and updated?
    Yes! CDAP documentation will continue to be publicly and freely available.
  6. I’m not a customer yet. Can I still get enterprise support?
    Reach out to sales@cask.co for options for enterprise support, on-premise and in the cloud.
  7. I'm an existing enterprise customer. How does this affect me?
    Cask will continue to provide support for existing customers.
  8. How can I request a new feature or report bugs?
    The issue system will continue to be available at https://issues.cask.co.
  9. Will the product still be called CDAP?
    As of now, there are no changes to any naming.

CDAP Open Source Questions

  1. Will CDAP remain open source?
    Yes, it will remain open source and there are no plans to change the open approach to development.
  2. What open source license will it be under?
    There is no change to how CDAP is licensed. CDAP will continue to be licensed under Apache 2.0.
  3. Are any existing parts of CDAP going to go from open source to closed source?
    There are no plans to make any existing part of CDAP closed source.
  4. Will CDAP become an Apache Project or Google Project ?
    There are no immediate plans to change CDAP but all options are being considered for the future. Development of CDAP to date has been highly concentrated at Cask but the plan is to grow the community beyond the core.
  5. Will CDAP continue to work with all Hadoop Distributions?
    Yes. CDAP will continue to support major Hadoop Distributions going forward.
  6. Will CDAP be offered as part of Google Cloud?
    Yes. More details will be announced in the coming weeks and months.
  7. How can I stay up-to-date with what’s happening with CDAP?
    As an open source project, CDAP has extensive issue and wiki systems outlining details and designs of everything under development, and this will remain. In addition, you can sign-up for the CDAP newsletter.
  8. I’m eagerly awaiting the release of CDAP 5.0, is it coming soon?
    The release was delayed but there will be more details in the future.
